About me

My name is Giuseppe La Tona, I am 27 years old and I was born in San Cataldo, a town located in the center of Sicilia, Italy.

Currently I work at Jobrapido, one of the biggest job-ads search engine on the web. As a Software Engineer of the R&D team I develop and mantain the search engine core.

Previously I worked at Visiant, creating enterprise web applications with Ajax UIs with GWT, GXT, J2EE, EJB. I work with Open Source technologies/tools and Agile software development methodologies.

I graduated with a Master Degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Catania in July 2008.

In 2008/09 I lived in Tokyo for 12 monhs as a fellow of Vulcanus in Japan programme, with a scolarship awarded by the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation. I attended 4 months of intensive Japanese language course, obtaining the JLPT  (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) certification, level 4.

The following 8 months, I worked as an intern at NTT Data Corporation, Research & Development Headquarters in Tokyo. My internship task was to R&D on  Mandatory Access Control (MAC) for Linux Operating Systems as a member of TOMOYO Linux project. I contributed to the project evolution especially focusing on MAC’s potentials in embedded Linux platforms.
I succesfully ported TOMOYO Linux to Android platform and I had the opportunity to present my achievements in important open source conferences such as CELF (Consumer Electronix Linux Forum) Jamborees in Tokyo and Osaka. My session proposal has also been accepted for the 1st Japan Linux Symposium held in Tokyo, October 2009.
